The genesis of the 2012 CleOlympics

It all started with the miracle of technology that is Pinterest.  Rewind to August 2011.

Do you ever find a really amazing website or a picture or something of interest whilst searching for something else online?  Yeah, me too.  Do you ever remember where you saw it, when six months later you suddenly find that that particular article or picture or website is exactly what you need at that very moment?  No, me neither.  Bookmarks are disastrous, because I can never remember which computer I was on when I bookmarked and I can never remember in which bookmark folder I saved it or I simply can't be bothered to look through a list of hundreds of bookmarks with undescriptive titles.  Enter: Pinterest.

Armed with my handful of virtual pinboards, I set off to start planning Cleo's birthday party.  I never anticipated how my pinboards would grow.  I was now able to pin (in an organised fashion) every single idea I came across online, for consideration at a more convenient time.  Awesome!!

And the planning process was off to a rollicking start.  I think I started off possibly planning a Charlie and Lola party or something vague, like ballerinas, or rainbows and unicorns (not really, but now that I mention it...).  Then, one day as I sat thinking about what a perfect day for a three-year old would look like, whilst also trying to keep an eye on Cleo and her friends running rampant, and generally acting like crazy toddlers, inspiration struck...running!  Yes, there must be running and jumping and climbing trees at Cleo's party (well, okay, not trees really, but definitely running and jumping).  So, think, think, think, went my poor, overworked brain, what theme encompasses running, jumping and mad play?  *cue trumpets*  The Olympics!

And thus, the idea was born, followed by a spike in Pinterest use by yours truly, furiously searching for all things Olympic to pin on my Olympics Party board.  After a disastrously chaotic, but brilliantly fun, Halloween party, my tip-toppiest friend Ellie made a pact to reign me in if my ideas got too crazy and out of control.  Following a "planning meeting" last week, over mugs of instant M&S coffee, all my wild plans were given the go-ahead and the hunt for the "stuff" to make it happen commenced.

If you found your way here from Cleo's party invitation, I really hope you'll be able to make it and look forward to seeing you on 25 February.
